A busy weekend for DK runners

The weekend started with the annual Gavin Tipper 5k race on Friday 10th September held at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club in memory of Gavin Tipper. Proceeds for the event go to local charity Action Heart.

It was the first event to be held by DK since the start of the pandemic and runners were out in force to support the event.

The overall winner was Reece Ashfield who finished in a blistering time of 15.45 with the first female Jade Charlton finishing in 19.34. The U16 titles went to Seth Avery in 17.53 and Evie Tromans in 21.18. First back for DK was Richard Tonks in 27th place with a time of 20.20.

The event was also the culmination of an Introduction to Running course held by DK and several of the beginners completed the 5k event.

On Sunday 12th September nine DK members travelled north to take part in the 40th Great North Run. First back for the club was Lucy Jordan finishing in an impressive 1:59.39. Other runners were Andy Colquitt, Kate Crofts-Viney, Callum and Kerrie Lawson, Lisa Mason, Kathryn Purslow, Andrew and Jayne Robinson-Morris.

Farrah Hunter-Coley headed north to take part in the Blackpool Festival Marathon and completed the course in 5:53.27.

Meanwhile a little closer to home, four members took part in the Black Country Road Race, a 10k route around Halesowen. First back for the club was Richard Tonks in a time of 41.08, followed by Rory Campbell in 49.07, Jane Campbell, who was first in her age group in 54.25 and Jennifer Fletcher, who despite nursing an injury finished in 56.34.
